our history
After 30 years as an Authorized Raynor Steel Garage Door Distributor, and 20 years building high-end custom wood doors, Kurt Thornburg knew quality.
As the years went by, he became increasingly frustrated with the lack of quality in what was available in the door panel market. He felt the stiles and rails were too small for the added weight on a custom door, the plywood material was cheap, and the gap between the panels was unacceptable. For two years he worked at perfecting a stronger, safer, and higher quality section.
The final product resulted in wider stiles and rails, more structurally sound materials, and the tolerances were tighter between the panels. Our attention to detail, quality control, and customer service is what makes us the finest door panel company in the market today.

About Kurt Thornburg, Owner & Founder
A natural artist and inventor, Kurt combines his passion for design with over 30 years experience in the overhead door industry to create truly unique garage doors.
Kurt’s introduction to the overhead door industry began in 1978. As an installer in Great Falls, Montana, he was exposed to all aspects of the industry, including the servicing and manufacturing of residential, commercial, and industrial garage doors.
By 1994, he had branched out with Highland Doors, the premier maker of custom-designed garage doors. Today, Kurt and his company enjoy a strong reputation as they continue to open the door to imaginative designs. Along with his local success, for the past four years Kurt has been one of only 10 people appointed to Team Raynor—a special group of consultants that resolve product development and enhancement issues for the Raynor Garage Door Company, the leading overhead door company in the United States.
From his many accomplishments to his magnificent designs, it’s easy to see why Kurt Thornburg makes Door Panel Systems a cut above the rest.
